Overview

The color/properties:

Colorverse Delicious Sleep is a soft purple. There’s not a lot of saturation, but it’s also not so light that it becomes difficult to read, and it has an almost matte look to it. There’s not a lot of tonal variation, but it still shades distinctively with a crisp cut between its light and dark tones, with dark edges around the areas where the ink pools.

Performance on paper:

Delicious Sleep should be okay on plenty of fountain-pen-friendly papers, but I was surprised to see that there was quite a bit of micro-feathering and even some small traces of bleed-through on my Tomoe River sheet, as well as the Kokuyo sheet. There wasn’t any feathering or bleeding on the Tomoe River I used in my writing sample (both Sanzen 52 gsm Tomoe River), but it’s worth noting that some less ink-resistant papers may not pair well with this ink.

The dry times were average, mostly drying within 15-20 seconds with the larger nib sizes, and a slightly longer average of 10-15 seconds with the finer nib sizes.

The water resistance was poor, with only faded traces of what was written left after water exposure, as well as heavy clouding that leaves the end result less than legible.

Performance in the pen:

Delicious Sleep as a dry-medium flow that mostly worked well, but I had some serious trouble with the 1.1 stub that had constant hard starts while writing. Otherwise, the other nib sizes performed fine, and while it’s not the most lubricated ink out there, it’s not unbearably dry-feeling either.

The cleaning process was a breeze, and washed out of both my nib units and test pens quickly with a single soak and flush. There wasn’t any residue, color, or stains left in the pen or nib units.

My personal thoughts...

While working on this review, something I couldn’t help but think was that in Colorverse’s “Joy in the Ordinary” set, Delicious Sleep is the odd one out — and that’s not a bad thing. Unlike the rest of the set, Delicious Sleep is trying to represent something less tangible than, say, a brunch date. At least, that’s my interpretation. But that’s also what makes Delicious Sleep so brilliant — it’s successfully conveying that sense of comfortable surrealness of a cozy dream. It honestly reminds me a lot of what Diamine tried to do with Lullaby from 2024’s Inkvent calendar, but this feels so much more usable, and to me, it makes more sense.
