Welcome to Inkvent Day 10! Today, we’re checking out Velvet Emerald.
The color/properties:
Velvet Emerald is a standard ink. The base color is a moderate green with soft blue undertones. The color is subtly muted but, at the same time, carries a depth that imparts the color with a mild richness. It shades crisply between its tones, and in some cases, might present a red sheen at the edge of letters as well as where the ink pools.

How did it perform?
Velvet Emerald’s performance was mixed. Initially, it performed well and had a comfortable medium flow. Unfortunately, as the nib size went up I began to notice a gradual lack of flow and lubrication. I experienced a few hard starts with the broad nib during my tests on both papers. I think the issue would easily be remedied by simply using a wetter pen. There wasn’t any bleeding or feathering on either of the test pages, and the ink cleaned out with a basic flush without any lingering color or sediment left over in the pen.

My personal thoughts…
Velvet Emerald is okay. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the color — after all, blue-green-with-red-sheen (however much or little) is a timeless classic. Velvet Emerald gets a lot of things right and I could see myself enjoying it — it’s quite festive and a great choice for a winter ink. Though we’ve already received a handful of similar greens in previous editions of the Inkvent calendar, this might be a great option if you’re looking for something like Garland (from the 2021 Red Edition) without the shimmer and sheen effects.
