Day 3!

Welcome to Inkvent Day 3! Today, we have Early Dusk.

The Color and Properties

Early Dusk is a soft medium blue. It’s a shade that, I think, captures the appearance of the sky as it transitions into night quite well. The closer I look at this ink, the more I see just a hint of a purple undertone. It’s not immediately apparent, but once you see it, it’s hard not to notice every time you glance at it. It gives this ink a touch of complexity without deterring from the overall theme of the ink and, if anything, reinforces it by replicating the subtle color variations in the evening sky.

Early Dusk had excellent performance, making for a pleasant writing experience. The ink had a consistent medium flow across each of the test nibs and provided enough lubrication to make writing enjoyable, without losing out on tactility. I didn’t experience any hard starts or stops during my tests, and overall, I don’t think this ink would be an issue in most pens, if any.

Cleaning was easy and the water ran clear after a basic flush without leaving any residue behind in the pen or in the nib units.

My personal thoughts…

I like Early Dusk. It’s an attractive and elegant blue that I could easily picture myself writing with. I wouldn’t necessarily call it festive, but I wouldn’t say it’s out of theme either. The days become shorter in the winter season and this ink communicates the feeling well. It would be a good choice for a winter blue, and in contrast, it’s probably not the best choice of blue for any other season. It still might seem like it’s playing it a tad too safe when you compare it to the unique, experimental qualities of other Inkvent inks, but to me, it’s right at home among them.
