Day 12!

Welcome to day 12! Today, we’re looking at Bubbly.

The Color and Properties

Diamine Bubbly is a shimmering ink. It contains particulates that glitter and gleam in the light. As the name would suggest, the base color is a golden champagne color that shades with a soft cut and dark edges where the ink pools at the bottom of the letters in both print and cursive writing. The shimmer is a matching gold that, while not very contrasting to the base color, is still very bright and easy to see. Still, the overall color is on the pale side, and some might find the ink hard on the eyes.

Bubbly was well-behaved on all the papers I tested it with, and I didn’t notice any traces of bleeding or feathering. The ink has a medium flow and decent lubrication that makes for an overall comfortable writing experience. Despite having a good flow, however, the shimmer was still too much for the fine nib, and there was unfortunately a lot of clogging. Thankfully, the other nibs performed just fine. When working, the shimmer distribution is excellent, and it didn’t require much agitation to keep it flowing consistently. I didn’t experience any noticeable drops in flow during extended writing.

When cleaning, the base color washes out quickly with basic flushing using a bulb syringe; however, there are typical rings of shimmer along the inside of the barrel and piston crown. In this case, it required the pen to be disassembled to clean the remaining shimmer out.

My personal thoughts…

I have a feeling this one will be polarizing for a lot of people because of how pale it is, but I don’t hate it. At first, I was expecting the ink to be dry and a poor performer, but Bubbly does it well, and aside from the fine nib, my experience with the ink was really positive. I don’t mind the paleness myself, and I think the color and theme fit right in with Inkvent. I like it. It’s not a bad choice if this is the kind of thing you’re looking for!
