Diamine Inkvent 2025: Day 25 — Myrrh the Merrier

Welcome to the final day of Inkvent 2025! We’re ending on a high note with Myrrh the Merrier.
The Color and Properties
Myrrh the Merrier is a shimmer and sheen ink. It has particulates in it that glitter and shine in the light, but the ink also dries into a purple-red sheen that shines in the light where the ink pools the heaviest (usually at the bottoms of letters or where letters cross each other). The base color is a midnight teal that, while highly saturated, still has some minor shading, especially when writing in cursive where the color darkens up a bit before it begins to sheen at the end of the letter. The particulates are a pearly blue, and while they don’t necessarily contrast the base color a lot, they’re very easy to see shimmering in the light.

Myrrh the Merrier is well-behaved and didn’t bleed or feather through any of the papers I tested it with. The ink has a medium flow and is well lubricated for a comfortable writing experience. I didn’t experience any performance issues either! No clogs or drops in flow and no hard starting. It has a medium shimmer distribution, which is less than some of the other inks in this calendar, but it didn’t require a lot of agitation to keep flowing consistently either. This is a good-performing shimmer.
Cleaning, on the other hand, is about as expected. The color washed out of the pen body quickly, however, the remaining shimmer residue left a pearly blue film on the inside of the barrel. While admittedly cool-looking, it is not clean and required disassembly of the pen to swab out. The ink cleaned out of the nib units easily enough, but it required multiple soaks (a few hours each) and flushes until they were clean of the ink. This isn’t anything out of the ordinary for an ink of higher saturation, but I recommend allowing nib units to soak overnight to save time cleaning.

My personal thoughts…
Oh, hey! The last day isn’t just a winner, but I think it might be my favorite final-day Inkvent ink since perhaps the Green calendar (Best Wishes). It’s a genuinely great shimmer ink, and it’s quite striking to look at. I want to focus on the name here, though, because it’s fantastic. What is Myrrh? It’s an aromatic, amber-colored tree resin with many traditional and medicinal uses. Clearly, the actual material has no bearing on the choice of color for the ink (a missed opportunity, perhaps), but myrrh does have a connection to Christmas. In the Biblical story of Jesus’ birth, he is visited by three Wise Men (or Magi), each bearing a gift, one of which is Myrrh. This is the only link between the two that I could find.
Now, if Diamine had simply named the ink “More the Merrier,” it would still have been a perfect Inkvent ink. But what they’ve done here is beyond such pedestrian naming conventions: they created a pun. Both pun-tastic and pen-tastic. It’s an Inkvent miracle!
