Day 4!
Day 4! Today, we’re looking at Smoky Tobacco
The Color and Properties
Diamine Smoky Tobacco is a scented ink. The color is a deep brown with heavy yellow undertones. The ink shades with a soft cut where the ink pools at the bottom of the letters when writing in both cursive and print. Cream papers bring out much more of the brown in this ink, while white papers seem to bring out the yellow tones. The scent, shockingly, isn’t terrible! If you try to smell it directly from the bottle, it will smell very alcohol-y and unpleasant; however, when it’s in the pen, and you’re writing with it, it’s not so aggressive. While writing, I found the scent to be slightly sweet, woody, and pleasant.

Smoky Tobacco has a medium-wet flow, but unlike many of the previous scented Inkvent inks, it doesn’t feel watery or unlubricated. It also doesn’t seem to have the same tendency to feather and bleed through paper. In fact, the overall experience was excellent and enjoyable. I didn’t experience any hard starting, skipping, or drop-offs in flow during extended writing. This is a great performing ink.
The cleaning experience was very easy, and it washed out of the test pen and nib units in a single soak and flush with a bulb syringe.

My personal thoughts…
Could this be? A Diamine scented ink? That I liked? It’s true: outside of perhaps Forest Gateau from 2024, this is the only Diamine scented ink that I unquestionably like. I’ll even say it’s excellent! Why is that? Because it works! Feathering? No. Bleeding? None. Smell? Debatable, but shockingly, I enjoyed it. It was cozy. Why can’t they all be like this? And, my goodness, I think it’s a perfectly appropriate Inkvent ink, too. I have a feeling the color might be polarizing, because maybe it looks like dirty tobacco water (especially with bigger nib sizes, and sorry if I’ve just ruined the color for you), but I don’t care. I really like the color. I really like the ink. A lot. I might even use the whole bottle and then buy another one.
