A Quick Look at the 2025 Kaweco DIY Emerald Eve Fountain Pen

The Kaweco DIY event is back for 2025, so I’ve once again made my way back to Pen Boutique to get my hands on this year’s pen, posthaste!

This year is more or less the same: all the trays of parts were already laid out on the table in between the two presses, ready to be put together. I was surprised to see that there were also parts for last year’s Kaweco DIY Berry available as well (though no mixing and matching was allowed). The assembly process is the same, so for a more detailed look into that, I recommend looking at last year’s post. This year, I’m going to focus on the pen itself.

This time around, the pen is a medium blue-green color called Emerald Eve. It’s a color that doesn’t overstate itself, but it's still pleasing to the eye. I’ve filled this one with Diamine’s Aurora Borealis.

It has gold hardware (although the clip is an optional extra) with a matching “Kaweco DIY Sport” etching. The gold hardware helps warm up the slightly cooler tone of the pen. I still can’t decide if I love or hate that the DIY is in a completely different font, but it does make it distinct and easy to identify as something other than a standard Kaweco Sport.

Other than inking up the pen, the first thing I was curious about was how it compared to the standard green Kaweco or even the cyan one, as I’ve seen a lot of product images that make the green Sport look brighter, and the cyan pen greener. With a quick comparison, however, it’s easy to tell that they’re not even close. The green one is significantly darker and the cyan one is, well, blue (though arguably not cyan).

And that’s the pen — it looks great, but beyond that, I’m happy to see the DIY event return in 2025. It’s more than just the fun of putting the pen together yourself: it brings people into brick-and-mortar stores, and in a time where in-person shopping is becoming more and more scarce, I really appreciate that, and I’d be glad to see it again next year! (Kaweco, please, orange. Thank you.)
