Day 6!
Hello everyone! For day 6, we have Fir & Fog.
The Color and Properties
Diamine Fir & Fog is a chameleon ink. It is a type of shimmering ink that will change color depending on the lighting and angle at which it’s viewed. The base color is a dusty and cool grey-green that shades with a soft cut and dark green edges around pooled areas at the bottom of letters. In most lighting, the shimmer seems to look green, but in lower lighting and at steep viewing angles, it can look pink or even blue.

Fir & Fog has a medium flow and is surprisingly well lubricated. The overall writing experience was pleasant, especially with the medium and broad nibs. I didn’t experience any clogs (although I was admittedly concerned that the fine nib would clog eventually because it’s so shimmery), and there weren’t any noticeable drops in flow during my extended writing tests. The shimmer distribution was excellent and required very little agitation to keep flowing.
The cleaning experience was as expected. There weren’t any stains left in the pen, and the base color washed out quickly from the nib units with a single soak and flush with a bulb syringe, but there was a remaining ring of shimmer left over inside the barrel and along the piston crown that required the pen to be disassembled to get fully clean.

My personal thoughts…
Even though shimmers can be tougher on the cleaning side of things, I loved Fir & Fog. There’s something about the earthy and wintry base color with the chameleon shimmer that looks so good to me, and that’s saying a lot because I’ve rarely been a fan of the way the chameleon shimmers look or work. Fir & Fog feels different, and it works so well. It’s another one of those inks that I found myself getting lost in the writing experience. If you’re considering a full bottle of this one, I highly recommend it!
